Broadly seen, new dance or "sinmuyong" is Korea`s national dance as a new synthetic stage art based on Korea`s unique dance forms, beauty consciousness, and creative body movement with a new system and different ideas. it is also a revival version of traditional Korean dance. Included in this type of new dancing are the borrowed Neuer Tanz or German expressionist dancing, improved traditional dancing of Bae Gu-ja, Choe Seung-heui, Jo Taek-won, and Han Seong-jun, and a few dancing dramas up to the 1970s. New dance had a lot of influences on the creative Korean dancing which began to be born in the mid-1970s and was almost completed in the 1980s. As the beauty of inneer form was respected, the tense harmony of expressionism and formality was pursued. In other words, new dance might well be highly evaluated not just for new forms but also for independence and creativity. In this rapidly-changing contemporary world, we might have to accelerate formal changes of new dancing so that it can be a typical type of Korean dance by introducing the modern sense of diverse technical elements. In addition, we should cultivate some educational values of new dance as a model for Korean dance education.
