While there has been a significant amount of work recently on competitive models in business, relatively few have focused on the tourism industry. The author herein examines the possible application of competitive models to tourism, and review one model which has been specifically developed for tourism applications. Several enhancements of this model are suggested. The enhanced model is than applied to assess the Las Vegas market in an attempt to determine how useful a tool it can be in explaining the success of Las Vegas as a competitive destination.
