The purpose of this study is to find out language and thinking abilities of preschoolers. For this purpose, a test which has 4 sub-categories was constructed. The categories are perceptive, analytic, synthetic, and reasoning skills. This test was administered to the 312 four-, five-, and six-year old kindergarten children. Cross tabulations, correlation coefficients and Chi Sguares revealed that age, socioeconomic status and IQ of the children were the correlated variables with language achievement and response modes. Children performed best on language skills based on perception, followed by analytic, synthetic, and reasoning skills in descending order.
