Porter의 경쟁구조분석, PLC 분석, 시장창출 메카니즘 분석, 그리고 시장 기회 및 위협요인 분석을 통하여 국내 키토산 산업을 조망하였다. 경쟁구조에서 특징적인 부분은 원료공급 비즈니스가 수산업에 해당되기 때문에, 원료수급이 매우 불안정하다는 점과, 주요 응용분야인 건강보조식품 분야의 PLC가 3~4년을 넘기기 어렵기 때문에 대체위협이 항상 존재한다는 점이다. 또한, 다양한 기회요인과 위협요인이 대두되고 있으나, 현 상황에서는 위협요인이 크게 부각되고 있는 상황이며, 기술적 성숙이전에 bubble 시장이 과도하게 형성되어, 이후에, 기술적 제약요인(constraints)으로 해결되지 못할 경우 급격한 시장규모의 감소현상으로 이어질 소지가 있다. 이에 따라, 고품질의 키토산 유도체 등의 개발 및 용도 확대가 향후 키토산 시장의 지속적 성장을 가능하게 하는 중요한 요소로 작용할 것이다.

Chitosan industry was analyzed through Porter`s 5P`s, PLC, formation mechanism, drivers and constraints of the market. 5P`s analysis reveals that unstability in supplying raw material and strong power of substitutes exist. Short PLC of 3-4 years, in functional food market, is also played as one of the severe market constraints. In addition, the Korean chitosan market was sensationally expended despite lace of technological breakthrough, so, to achieve sustainable market growth, the development of derivatives and new application fields are needed.
