Patio de Armas is the work of the spanish novelist, Ignacio Aldecoa, who is famous for his short stories. He belongs to the "Half Century Generation(Generacio`n del medio siglo)", which is also called "The Boys of the War" or "The Amazed Boys (by the civil war)", As for the author, the experience, especially, of his because many short stories of his including Patio de Armas are based on the experience of his boyhood during the Spanish Civil War(1936-1939). We believe that a short story is appropriate for the semotic analysis because of its amount (volume). Besides having a persuasive structure, Patio de Armas is fit for our purpose. In the analysis of the work, we adopted the method of Romera Castillo which is consisted of three parts: morphosyntax, semantics, and rhetoric. However, we excluded the last one, which treats the relation between the author and the work and the relation between the work and the reader. Even though the semiotic method as a tool of analysis is limited to the realistic stories as Tomas Albadalejo insists, we could understand not only the structure and the critical objects of the work are the war and a Catholic school education, but also the usefulness of the semiotic method.
