이 연구는 전략군에 따른 능력변화의 결정요인과 변화 패턴, 능력변화가 경쟁우위와 성과에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 개념적 모델을 제공한다. 연구모형은 3단계로 구분된다. 1단계는 기업능력 변화의 결정요인을 market dynamics와 firm dynamics로 구분, 분석한다. 2단계의 전략수립능력과 전략실행능력을 능력의 활용과 발굴 차원에서 세분류하여 기업능력의 변화 매트릭스를 설정하고, 결정요인들간의 피드백 관계를 검토한다. 3단계는 능력 변화의 패턴이 경쟁우위 및 기업성과에 미치는 영향을 연구명제로 제시한다. 이를 위해 기존 연구를 비판적으로 재해석하고, 상황이론, 진화론, 복잡적응시스템 이론을 기반으로 하여 기업능력 변화의 다이나믹스를 제시한다.

This article provides a conceptual model that explains a determinant and pattern of change in the firm capabilities, and causal relation between capabilities change and outcomes according to a strategic group. The model consists of 3 stages. The 1st stage defines market dynamics and firm dynamics as determinants of the capabilities change. The 2nd stage establishes the capabilities change matrix by using a two dimensions such as exploitation and exploration in capabilities for strategy formulation ＆ implementation, and defines a feedback relationship with the determinants. The 3re stage forms a proposition how the capabilities change has an influence on competitive advantage and performance. This model is supported by critical reviews on the antecedent studies, and proposes an 『change dynamics of firm capabilities』 based on contingency theory, evolutionary view, and complex adaptive system.
