The purpose of this study was to investigate university student`s cognition about tradition and modern times by analyzing the image perceived by university students. The subjects of this study were 213 university students residing in Chung-Cheong Do. The contents analysis was performed for students` free written self-reports. The results were as follows. (1) The tradition and modern times perceived by university students were categorized 8 dimensions ; ceremony and social systems, playing culture and arts, material culture, human, time and place, food, representative word, etc. (2) The cognition structure for the tradition was similar to the cognition structure for the modern times. (3) But the cognition contents for the tradition and modern times were different.
