The purpose of this study was to kinematically analyze the putting stroke time. Nine well-trained university golfers with similar levels of skill(average 5.3 strokes) were chosen for the study. The subjects performed the 5 different putting distances(1m, 2m, 3m, 4m, and 5m) and struck with their own putters. Their performance was filmed with one 60 Hz regular video camera. Based on the results of this study, the following conclusions were drawn. First, regardless of putting distances, total swing time was about 1.53 seconds. Based on the swing phases, backswing time was 0.71 seconds, downswing time was 0.27 seconds, and follow through time was 0.55 seconds. Second, the percentage of backswing was 46.4%, downswing was 17.4%, and follow through was 36.2%. Third, the ratio of backswing and downswing was 2.7:1.
