A Study on Pre - Schooler's Measuring Ability of Length in Topological Space

Today it is the cognitive area including science and mathematics education that is emphasized in pre-schooler eduecation program world-wide. Therefore this paper provides the material(or data) about pre-schooler`s measuring ability of length for kindergarten to construct the concrete method and content of mathematics education by clarifying the degree of measuring ability in the space which kindergarten children act. The subjects of this study are L kindergarten children in Taegu city who are 94 of male and 92 of female. The experimental method is personal interview which this researcher used 7 wooden stick produced through preliminary examination and allowed 30 seconds for measuring. The results of this study obtained from these procedures are as foolows 1) There is little difference in measuring ability of length between male and female child. But the female child born fron Sep. in 1985 to Feb. in 1986 is inferior to the male child of same age in menasuring 40 cm length. 2) As an age increases, the measuring ability of length becomes excellent. Especially the child born from Mar. in 1984 is most superior. 3) The child born from Feb. in 1986 to Mar. in 1985 is lack in measuring ability of 15cm, 25cm, 30cm and 35cm length. 4) The child born from Feb. in 1985 to Sep. in 1984 is lack in measuring ability of 25cm, 30cm and 35cm length. 5) The child born from Mar. in 1984 to Aug. in 1984 shows no difference in measuring ability among ty the child born from Mar. in 1984 to Aug. in 1984 shows no difference in measuring ability among types of length. 6) The child born from Mar. in 1984 to Aug. in 1984 is superior to the child born from Feb, in 1986 to Sep. in 1985 in measuring ability of 15cm length.
