본 연구는 구비 설화에서 유아에게 적합한 이야기를 선별하여 이야기가 갖는 특성과 교육적 가치를 탐색함으로써 한국 전래동화의 활용 가능성을 높이는데 목적을 두었다. 연구 결과 유아에게 적합한 구비설화 31편이 선별되었고. 그 이야기들은 권선징악, 인과응보, 효 사상과 같은 일반적 특성이외에도 해학, 꿈과 소망, 민간 신앙, 조상들의 생활 모습 및 삶의 지혜, 자아실현, 긍정적 자아개념, 가족간의 화합과 사랑, 생명 존중, 세시풍속의 유래 등을 담고있다. 그리고 구비설화의 교육적 평가 준거를 선정하여, 이해, 흥미, 감동, 단순 명쾌한 구성, 민족 특성이나 고유 문화 반영, 바른 심성과 정서발달, 상상력을 포함하는 이야기들의 교육적 가치를 고찰하였다.

This article reports on the rationale and process used to select and analysis certain stories based on old folktales and restore them to their original language and telling. The conclusions were as follows: First, Thirty-one stories which suited for children were selected. Second, Thirty-one stories were analyzed on the basis of the morals they taught, such as respect for one`s parents, rewarding good deed; folklore qualities they possessed, such as humor and irony, dream and wish; and portrayal of ancestral life styles and customs. Third, The stories were also analyzed on the basis of their understanding, interest, impression, simple and lucid construction, their mirroring of distinct national cultural characteristics and emotion, their imaginative appeal.
