On thirty-five Hybrid total hip arthroplasty that had been followed for three to five years, an average of 4.2 years, a retrospective radiographic study was done to assess bone changes of the proximal femur containing cemented femoral stem using a personal computer linked digital camera in a group of asymptomatic patients. Femoral neck atrophy including porosis with cancelization and round off were noted 20 femurs(57%). Fifteen femurs(43%) has remained unehanged from the original femur. Regarding to change of cortical dimensions, 29 hips(83%) in the calcar, 27 hips(78%) around the middle of the stem, 29 hips(83%) around the di4tal tip of the stem remained unchanged from the original femoral cortex. More than 1mm cortial thickenning occurred only around the middle and the distal tip of the stem in five hips(14%) and cortical thinning developed in the calcar, around the middle and the distal tip of the stem in six(17%), three(8%), one(2%), respectively. In summary, most femur remained unchanged or minimally changed on 3-5 years follow up radi- ographs of cemented femoral stem and digitization of radiographs could be useful tool to assess the follow-up radiographs of total hip arthroplasty.
