The concept of glovalization reflects the sense of a vast enlargement of world communication, cultural integration, and the global market in the postmodern era, all of which seem far more conspicuous than ever before. Under the circumstances, one cal either celebrate globalization or deplore it, just as one accepts postmodernism or dismisses it. Indeed, one cal welcome this new phenomenon of the postmodern age called globalization as a positive sign for the global village, or laments it as the disappearance of national and cultural identities. Although the term, globalization, is basically a communicational concept, it also embodies cultural and economical connotations, which makes it far more complex than it seems. That is why globalization is something that you cannot simply repudiate or celebrate. And yet, many people tend to think that globalization is a convenient way of exporting American popular culture to other countries. legitimizing unprecedented cultural imperialism of America all over the world. Hence we encounter the problem of cultural uniformity and Americanization, closely interwined with globalization. And yet, it is undeniable that globalization has some positive elements, such as establishing a number of new intellectual and cultural networks among different nations. The cultural consolidation enabled by globalization could be healthy and progresseive, in the sense that it encourages the proliferation of new cultures Globalization, despite its flaws and drawbacks, could still provide a global intellectual and cultural festival without a dominant cultural center. Globalization, then, would surely provide Korean literature and culture with an opportunity to be more conspicuous and tangible in the world market.
