Using pictures in teaching Chinese Character is not so widespread as the memory work. There`s been two ways of memory work in teaching Chinese Character. The first is to have learners memorize the meaning and sound of each Character and write over and over again. The other is to have learners apply the meaning of each Character to the context. These ways take too much time and energy of learners. It is said that Chinese Character is difficult to learn for it s complicated stroke and writing order, and many people deter from learning it. But Chinese Character is ideograph and it can be associated easily it`s meaning and shape. So it is necessary to develope the teaching method of using pictures to teach Chinese Character. The aim of this study is to review the Chinese Character teaching method with pictures showing the developing stages of each character. Teaching Chinese Character using pictures is helpful because learners can grasp the meaning and shape more easily. There are two cases that Chinese Character can be showing by means of pictures. The one is to imitate the shape of the thing and the other is to visualize the abstract meaning. The former is pictograph : the latter concludes Jisa-munza, Idiograph. Hyunsung-munza, Junju-munza and Gacha-munza are application of these.
