This study was based on 80 patients with parotid gland tumor who had been admitted and treated at Department of Surgery, Catholic University Medical College during the past 4 years from January 1987 to December 1990. The result were as follows; 1) Sex distribution revealed preponderance of female with the ratio 1.2 : 1. 2) Benign tumor was prevalent in 4th decades while malignant tumor was prevalent in 6th decade. 3) The patients' chief complaint was painless mass with mean size of 4cm. Mean size of benign tumor was 3.8 cm while that of malignant tumor was 4.4 cm. The most biggest mass. which was malignant mixed tumor was 17 cm in size. 4) Mean duration of illness was 3.7 years. The duration of illness within 1 year was 28% of benign tumor and 56% of malignant tumor. 5) Among total 80 cases, 64 cases(80%) were benign tumor and 16 cases(20%) were malignant tumor. The most common benign tumor was pleomorphic adenoma(78%) and the most common malignant tumor was mucoepidermoid carcinoma(50% ) as majority. 6) The most commonly performed operative procedure was superficial lobectomy(40% ). 7) The postoperative complication were developed in 16 cases(20% ) including 14 cases(18%) of facial nerve palsy.
