Glinical Studies were made at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital on 140 cases of Primary Carcinoma of the liver from Jan. 1981 to Dec. 1985. The results were as follows; 1) In admitted patients, the annual incidence of primary hepatoma was observed in 0.99%. at 1981, 0.98%, at 1982, 1.32% at 1983, 1.53% at 1984, 1. 89% at 1985. 2) The ratio of male to female was 2.78:1 and the average age was 53.01 year. 3) The chief complaints on admission were abdominal pain, anorexia, weight loss, epigastric discomfort in order of frequency, Physical examination showed hepatomegaly, ascites, jaundice and fever. 4) Clonorehis sinensis infestation was found in. 4,3% of the cases. 5) Liver function tests revealed hypoalbuminemia in 76.4%, SGOT elevation in 61.4%, Alkaline phospbatase elevation in 38.6%, serum total bilirubin elevation in 37.9% in order of frequency. 6) Alpha-fetoprotein was positive in 55.8% in 114cases and serum HBsAg was found to be positive in 55. 8% in 77 cases. 7) The incidence of positive HBsAg was 73.2% (30cases out of 41cases) in hepatoma with positive AFP, and 34.6%(9cases out of 26cases) in hepatoma witli negative HRsAg, respectively. 8} The presense of cold area could be demonstrated by liver scanning in 87.1% of the 140cases: 7.8% in the righ lobe, 13, 1 4 in the left lobe, 11.5% in both lobe, 1.6% in porta hepatis. 9) 26cases (86.7%) of 30cases were died wi1hin 6 months after diagnosis.
