To evaluate the clinical significance of urinary GIFTEC test in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, a chemical method with GIFTEC reagents was applied to the 40 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, 35 with liver cirrhosis and 31 with chronic type B hepatitis. The results were as follows;
1) In the color grading, the positivity in the cases with hepatoma was 65.0% and it was significantly higher than other cases with chronic liver diseases. 2) The detection sensitivity for the hepatoma was 65.0% and specficity was 65.2%. 3) The absorbance at 490 nm in the cases with heptoma was significantly higher than that in chronic liver diseases. 4) There was no linear correlation between serum AFT and the absorbance of GIFTEC test in the hepatoma, but combination assay for GIFTEC test and serum AFP could detect 83.5% of the patients with hepatoma. It is suggested that urinary GIFTEC test can be a simple and useful test for the diagnosis of hepatoma.
