A clinical study on the effect of ethanol gastric motility was performed in 15 normal healthy men, the gastric emptying time(T1/2) and serum gastrin level were measured before and after ethanol ingestion. The amount of ethanol was 100 ml/m2 of 5g per 100 ml. The results are as follows: 1) The gastric emptying time was delayed in 0 min and 120 min after ethanol ingestion as compared with before ethanol ingestion in all cases. There was no difference of the mean gastric emptying time between 0 min and 120 min after ethanol ingestion. 2) There was no difference of the mean serum gastrin level between before and after ethanol ingestion. The serum gastrin level had a negative correlation with the gastric emptying time in each case.
