Liver cirrhosis is a diffuse process characterized by fibrotic and a conversion of normal architecture into structually abnormal nodules. It has followed hepatocellular necrosis and the causes are many. At present, no specfic therapy exists for HBsAg positive chronic liver disease. The animal liver extracts have been used in the treatment of liver disease for many decades. The therapeutic efficacy of Adelavin, which is newly developed animal liver extract was evaluated in 29 patients of liver cirrhosis. Every patient was treated with 2 ampule of Adelavin in 500cc of 5% dextrose solution for eight weeks. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) There was no significant difference of liver function test after treatment, however sub- jective symptoms such as fatique, nausea and anorexia etc. were much improved. 2) There were no significant untoward reactions either subjective or objective to the administration of the drug, except one case of nausea and another case of diarrhea. In conclusion, at least Adelavin appears to be safe and effective for the subjective symptoms of the patient with chronic liver disease.
