Esophageal and gastroduodenal endoscopy was performed in 209 proven cirrhotic patients in order to demonstrate the frequency of the lesions found in upper gastrointestinal tract. The esophageal varix was demanstrated in 178 cases (85. 2%) among the 209 cirrhotics examined. The gastric erosion was found in 13 cases (6.2%), gastric mucosal homorrhasgic spots in 12 cases (5.7%) with peptic ulcer in 21 caes (10. 0%, gatric ulcer in 6.7%; duodenal ulcer in 3. 3%). There was no difference in the freguency of these lesions as the grade of esophageal varix increased.
