The diabetes in a group of 367 cirrhotic patients, and cirrhosis in a group of 259 diabetic patients were studied clinically. The patients admitted to Severance Hospital during the same period of January 1967 to December 1969, served as a control group. The following results were obtained. 1) In disregard of the order of onset diabetes was 10 times more common in the cirrotic group (8.7%) than the non-cirrhotic group(0. 75%), The frequency of diabetes after the onset of cirrhosis was 3. 8%. 2) In disregard of the order of onset. Cirrhosis ivas also 10 times more common in diabetic group (12. 3%) than in the non-diabetic group(1.08%). The frequency of cirrhosis after the onset of diabetes was 5.8%. 3) The diabetes in the cirrhotic group was found predominantly in male, and was maturity-onset in type characterized by minimal glycosuria, relative freedom from vascular complications and simple management with diet therapy only 4) The postnecrotic cirrhosis was significantly more common in the cirrhotic '6iabetic group than the cirrhotic-nondiabetic group. 5) In the combined cases, the order of the onset of the disease not affected the clinical features.
