A total of nineteen proprietary corticosteroid creams and ointments were evaluated with the occluded blanching test from 15 normal healthy volunteers. The results of vasoconstriction were estimated through two variables: (1) Area under the blanching curve. (2) Summed & total possible score. The study results were as follows: 1. Nearly all curves of the preparations showed peak at the 2∼3 hours after removal of occlusion with a marked fall off thereafter. 2. The most potent one among 19 topical corticosteroid preparations was the fluocinonide cream, 0.05%(Lidex crea). 3. There was no significant difference in potency between 0.25% fluocortolone caproate crea(Ultralan crea) and 0.25% fluocortolone caproare ointment(Ultralanointment). 4. The prescence of the antimicrobial additives has no apparent effect to the potency of topical steroid in the Celestone exceptions being in the Flumort cream. 5. There was no significant difference in vasoconstrintion between Synalar preparations made in Korea and U.S.A.
