Calcific shoulder periarthritis is a well defined condition with severe pain, increased stiffness and the gradual recovery of full movement of the shoulder; these feature usualiy occur over a number of months. This study presents the relationship between calcific showlder periarthritis and NII)DM. During a period of 22 mor ths (from l)ecember, 1989 to September, 1991), 250 patients with NIDDM and l00 normal subjects attending as in-patients at Koryo General Hosptal were examined for evidence of calcific shouulder periarthritis. The results were sunimarized as follows; 1) In NIDDM group 5 patients (2.0%) were found to have had calcific shoulder periarthritis. 2) In normal control group, no one had calcific shoulder periarthrtis. In conclusion, it is stressed that calcific shoulder periarthritis was found more frequently NIDDM group than normal control group.
