Cutaneous manifestations of 966 diabetic patient were observed from January 1988 to Match 1989 and analyzed according to systemic complications and blood glucose levels.
Results were as follows: 1) Cutaneous manifestations were observed in 595 patients (61.1%) infection (35.0%), pruritus (6.9%), shin spots (6.0%), anogenital pruritus (5,5%), rubeosis (2.9%), vitilign (2.2%),psoriasis (1.6%), diabetic foot (1.0%), peripheral edema (1.0%), diabetic bullae (0.6%), scler edenia (0.5%), necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum (0.3%), granuloma annulare (0.2%) and so on. 2) There were statistically significant differences in sex distribution nf anogmital pturitus, pripheral edema and skin spots. 3) The frequency of shin spots, diabetic foot, diabetic bullae, scleredema, necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum and granuloma annulare was increased in patients with systemic complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy. 4) There was no relationship between blood glucose levels and cutaneous manifestations except diabetic foot. 5) cutaneous reactions to insulin (NPH & Pl) were observed in 23 cases (8.2%) among 279 patients, including urticaria, localized reactions to insulin, maculopapular eruptiion, lipoatrophy and pruritus.
