고려대학교 의과대학부속 혜화병원 산부인과 불임크리닉에서 1986년 5월부터 1988년 12월까지 체외수정프로그램에 참여한 104예의 normospermic group과 45예의 oligo-& / or asthenozoospermic group을 대상으로 glass wool column, discontinous percoll gradients, swim-up 등의 정자 준비방법을 사용하여 정자 총 회복율, 운동성정자 회복율, 체외수정시 수정율, 임신율 등을 비교 분석하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 정액검사상 정상군의 경우 각 방법의 정자처리 후 각 정자의 검사성적과 체외수정시 수정율에 차이가 없었다. 2. 비정상 정액군에서 각 방법의 정자 처리후 정자 총 회수율과 운동성정자 회수율이 비정상군과 비교시 유의하게 높았다. 3. Glass wool column을 사용한 비정상정액군의 운동성 정자회복율이 percoll 사용군이나 swim-up사용군보다 유의하게 높았다. 4. 비정상정액군에서 glass wool column 사용군이 유의하게 높은 수정율을 보였다. 5. 세가지 정자 준비방법중 통계적으로 유의하지는 않지만 glass wool column을 사용한 정상 및 비정상정액군에서 가장 높은 임신율을 기록하였으나 정상군에서 glass wool column 방법이 percoll과 swim-up 방법과 비교시 유의하게 높은 임신율을 보였다.

Sperm washing is an essential step in assisted reproduction. Among the various methods of semen preparation, glass wool column, Percoll gradients and swim-up method were used to investigate the fertilizing ability of sperm in IVF. Although there was no significant difference in all parameters and fertilization rate after each method of semen preparation in 104 cases of normospermic group, total recovery rate and recovery rate of motile sperm were much lower after each procedure in oligo & / or asthenozoospermic group. Highest recovery rate of motile sperm, % motility, fertilization and pregnancy rate were observed after glass wool column procedure in oligo-& / or asthenozoospermic group than those after Percoll and swim-up used group. These data suggest that glass wool column technique may be a valuable sperm preparation method for IVF, especially in case of oligoasthenozoospermia.
