본원에서는 1988년 9월 강원도에서 처음 체외수정 및 자궁내 배아이식술을 시도했으며 1990년 5월 만삭의 첫 건강한 아기를 분만했다. 1988년 9월부터 1990년 12월까지 본원에서 시행한 체외수정 및 자궁내 배아이식술은 35명의 환자를 대상으로 38주기의 과배란 유도를 시행했으며 37주기에서 난자채취를 시행했고 32주기에서 자궁내 배아이식술을 시행하여 86%의 배아이식율을 보였다. 채취된 난자의 수는 평규 7.4개였으며 이중 69%가 수정되었고 평균 자궁내 이식된 배아의 수는 3.9개였다. 32주기 배아이식중 9예에서 임상적 임신이 되어 배아이식당 28%의 임상적 임신율을 보였으며 임신 9예중 2예에서는 만삭분만되었고 5예에서 임신 3개월이상 진행중이며 2예에서 유산되었다.

Our IVF&ET attempt began in september 1988 and first normal baby was delivered in May 1990. From September 1988 to December 1990, total 35 infertile patients were treated in an IVF&ET program and 38 controlled ovarian hyperstimulations, 37 Oocyte aspirations, and 32 embryo transfers were performed and the result, 9 clinical pregnancies were obtained(28% per embryo transfer). Of total 9 pregnancies, two pregnancies were delivered at term, 5 are ongoing pregnancy, 2 ended in clinical abortion.
