1987년 3월부터 1988년 3월까지 고려대학교 구로병원 산부인과에서 난관폐쇄로 진단받은 5명의 불임환자를 대상으로 난관성형술과 동시에 생식세포 난관내이식술을 시행하여, 시술한 5예중에서 3예에서 임신이 되었으며, 임신된 1예는 1988년 8월 15일 제왕절개술에의해 건강한 여아 5.1kg을 분만하였다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 볼 때, 난관성형술과 동시에 간편한 Mobile Lab.을 사용하여 생식세포 난관내이식술(GIFT)을 시행함으로써 비용의 절감 및 난관성형술 후 임신시기를 단축시킬 수 있었다.

Gamete intrafallopian transfer(GIFT) has been proposed as a treatment of infertility in patients with at least one normal fallopian tube. five patients with the diagnosis of either tubal factor or male factor were treated with human menopausal gonadotropin and human chorionic gonadotropin before surgery(tuboplasty). Semen was collected 2.5 hours before oocyte pickup at surgery and treated by the technique of wash and swim-up. After gamete evaluation, one or two oocytes and 100,000 actively motile sperm were loaded into a catheter and introduced through the fimbria. The contents of the catheter were gently emptied at a site approximately 1.5cm inside each fallopian tube. Three patients became pregnant: two pregnancies aborted; one pregnancy proceeded to the delivery of a viable infant. GIFT with tuboplasty may be considered as an alternative to in vitro fertilization in infertility cases due to fimbrial obstruction.
