이 병은 조직학적으로는 양성이나 임상적으로는 악성을 나타내며, 내장침입 및 전이는 적으며 대개가 복막내로 전이되고 침윤성 종양은 매우 적으나 악성이고, 방사선과 화학요법은 이 병의 예후와 진행에 별 효과가 없으며 조기진단과 적극적인 외과적 치료만이 이 병을 호전시킬 수 있다고 생각한다.

Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a relatively rare condition of massive gelatinous accumulation in the peritoneal cavity and gelatinous infiltration of the serous tissues resulting from perforation of mucinous cystoma or mucocele. A case of pseudomyxoma peritonei is reported with a brief review of the literature.
