A Clinical Analysis of Ectopic Pregnancy

This study was undertaken for the clinical evaluation and statistical analysis on the 162 patients with ectopic who had been admitted and treated at the Korea Veterans Hospital from Jan 1, 1977 to Dec 31, 1983 The results obtained were as follows: 1. The incidence of ectopic pregnancy was 1 in 28 deliveries 2. The most frequent age group was in 25-29 years of age comprising 36.4% and mean age was 29.6 years 3. Of the patients nulligravida was 6.2% and nullipara was 31.5% 4. The patients had experienced frtificial abortion more than once in 72.8% 5. In past histories 14.2% of the patients had previous abdominal surgery. Among them repeat ectopic pregnancy was found in 4.9%. Ectopic pregnancy occurred after laparoscopic tubal sterilization in 14.8% of total 6. The most frequent interval between L.M.P. and the onset of symptoms was 6-8 weeks in 24.1% 7. On symtomatological analysis lower abdominal pain was encountered in 91.2% vaginal spotting or bleeding in 66.7% and dizziness and syncope in 10.5% 8. Culdocentesis was perfomed in 88.3% and the accuracy rate was 93.7% 9. Ectopic gestation was implanted in tube in 81.55 ovary in 1.2% conus in 15.4% and corvix in 1.9% Of tubal pregnancies ampullary portion was involved in 44.7% 10. In operative mangements 45.7% of the patients were treated by salpingectomy 37.6% by salpingoophorectomy and 9.3% by cornual resection 11. There was no fatal case in 162 ectopic pregnancies.
