A clinical study of delivery cases, infants, and perinatal mortality rate in newborn infants during the period from Oct. 1, 1971 to Dec. 31, 1983 has been carried out in Kyung Hee University Hospital. Among 17425 babies delivered, 591 babies died during perinatal period and 17110 deliveries were performed. Results obtained were as follows; 1. Delivery cases increased steadly each year and from 1982. There were over 2000 delivery cases each year. Whereas primigravidas were 50.28% of total deliveries, the multiparas showed a decrease each year. 2. Maternal age group of 25~29 years was most common as 56.14%, and 30~34 age group was 19.35%, 20~24 age group was 18.07. 3. Spontaneous deliveries were most common as 49.54%, and cesarean section rate was 15.8%. Incidence of cesarean section increased each year, but breech deliveries decreased. 4. Less than 2500gm of infants were 6.4% of total delivery cases and did not show significant change each year. 5. Perinatal mortality rate had relatively high incidence of 33.92 per 1000 live births. 6. Low birth weight babies (less than 2500gm) had about 20 times of perinatal mortality rate than babies over 2500gm. 7. Sex ratio of male to female in all delivered cases was 1.1:1, and perinatal deaths was 1:1.04. 8. The babies of multigravidas had about two times of perinatal mortality rate than primigravidas. 9. According to the delivery type, the perinatal mortality rate was highest in breech deliveries as 415.93 per 1000 births, and the cesarean section showed relatively high perinatal mortality rate as 19.14 per 1000 births. 10. The perinatal mortality rate of babies delivered between the age 25~29 was lowest 20.43, and the age group below 19 years or over 35 years more than two times of perinatal mortality rate than age group of 25~29. 11. The most common cause of intrauterine deaths was of unknown origin. The following common causes were toxemia, maternal hemorrhage, congenital anomalies, infection as in order. Whereas the most common cause of neonatal deaths was of low birth weight. The following common causes were maternal homorrhage, toxemia, infection, cogenital anomalies as in order.
