저자들은 임신중 HbA1과 혈당치와의 상관 관계를 조사하기 위해 1980년 5월부터 1981년 7월까지 가톨릭의대 부속 성모병원 산부인과 외래에 내원한 산모 및 입원 산모 중에서 임신성 당뇨병 여자 환자 30명을 대상으로 검사를 시행하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 임신성 당뇨병군에서 HbA1의 값은 비임신 당뇨병군에 비해 매우 유의하게 낮았으나 정상 임신군에 비해서는 유의하게 높았다. 2. 정상 임신군의 HbA1의 값은 비임신 정상군의 값보다 낮았으며, 또한 혈당치도 낮았다. 3. HbA1과 혈당치와의 상관관계는 정상 임신군에서보다 임신성 당뇨병군에서 더욱 유의했다. 4. 임신성 당뇨병군과 정상 임신군에서 HbA1)과 만삭아 체중간의 상관관계는 없었다.

Hemoglobin A1 (HbA1) is a normal minor hemoglobin that glucose has been linked as a schiff base to the N-terminal valine at the both of the β-chain of hemoglobin A. To evaluate HbA1 as an indicator of prolonged glucose control in pregnant diabetics, four goups of subjects were studied. I was consisted of eighteen cases of gestational diabetic patients at the gestational age from 38 weeks to 42 weeks. Fifteen cases from them were class A and the remained three cases were class B by White`s classification. Group II was consisted of twenty five cases of normal pregnant women at the gestational age from 38 weeks to 42 weeks. Group III was consisted of thirty cases of nonpregnant diabetic female patients. Group IV was consisted of twenty five cases of nonpregnant normal female persons. HbA1 was examined by Isolab`s Fast Hemoglobin Test System as modified macrocolumn technique, originated by Trivelli. The results were as follows; 1) The value of HbA1 in group I, 8.73±1.64%, was significantly lower than its value in group II, 11.14±2.17% (P<0.01). 2) The value of HbA1 in group II, 5.95±0.73%, was sigificantly lower than its value in group IV, 6.89±0.89% (P<0.01). 3) The value of fasting blood sugar in group I and group II showed as 100.78±24.99ml/and 100ml and 16.94±20.81ml/100ml. The correlation coefficient between HbA1 and fasting blood sugar showed as 0.741 in group I and 0.399 in group II. The values of 2 hours post-prandial blood sugar in group I and group II showed as 166.94±20.8ml/100ml and 132.16±8.74ml/100ml The correlation coefficient bwtween HbA1 and 2 hours post-pranial blood sugar showed as 0.844 in group I and 0.367 in group II. Therefore, the value of HbA1 in group I was correlated more sigificantly with the concentration of the blood glucose than in groupn II. 4) No significant difference was shown in correlation between the value of HbA1 and the birth weight in the two pregnant groups, group I and group II.
