Cytohormonal patterns were evaluated on 123 lactating women, their lactating periods ranged from after delivery to the 18 months duration devided into 4 groups according to the lactating periods, and results summarized were as follows. Mean percentage and standard deviation of parabasal intermediate and superficial cells throughout the 4 groups were 6.31+-14.87%, 60.28+-24.45%, 33.41+-25.58% respectively. Parabasal cells showed marked decrement with prolongation of lactating period and on the contrary, superficial cells showed tendency of gradual increment and intermediate cells with stable tendency. The most frequent smear pattern observed was intermediate cell type with 44.7% and the least was parabasal cell type with 2.4%.
