Both maternal and neonatal ghosts of erythrocytes were obtained by differential centrifugation and the protein fractions constituent of erythrocyte membranes were compared. When the membraneous proteins were subjected to 5.6% polyacryl amide gel electrophoresis upon the disolution into sodium dodecylsulfatemercaptoethanol mixture significances between the maternal and neonatal erythrocytes were observed as follows. 1. The optimum wave length for amido Black 10 B dye solution was found to be 620 nm. 2. The membraneous protein of erythrocyte was fractionated into 5 bands namely, band I, II, IV, V and VI in the case of maternal blood in good contrast to 7 bands for the neonatal blood namely band I, II, III, IV, V, VI and VII. 3. Compared to the fraction bands of neonatal membraneous protein those of maternal protein were 2 bands less i.e band III and VII. 4. In the fractions of maternal membraneous protein band I was quantitatively the most abundant followed by bands IV, VI, V and II in decreasing order. 5. In the cases of neonatal erythrocytes the membraneous protein fractionated into band VI constitued 22.3% followed by bands I, IV, VII, II and III in quatitatively decreasing order. 6. Band II and band V were found to be identical for both maternal and neonatal erythrocytes quantitatively and in terms of electrophoretical mobility. 7. A relatively rapid mobility of band VI and VII in the neonatal case is indicated that constituent amino acids of membraneous protein are acidic amino acids with more carboxylic groups. 8. Serum protein was fractionated into 11 regions in the cases of both maternal and neonatal bloods. In view of the above observation it is concluded that there is a define difference between membraneous proteins of maternal and neonatal erythrocytes and it is reasoned to be due to the independent erythropoietic sites for two individuals.
