Estrogen 및 progesterone은 자궁근의 수분 및 전해질을 조절하여 자궁근기능에 중요한 역활을 한다.
Estrogen and progesterone regulate water and electrolytes in the uterine muscle and play a important role in functioning uterine muscle. The entire contractile system of the uterine muscle (adenosine triphosphate, adenosine triphosphatase, actomyosin and proper electrolyes levels) undergoes a series of characteristic changes under the influence of the ovarian hormones. The study of water and electrolytes in the uterine muscle may be important not only in explaining the physiologic mechanism for the relaxation and contraction of uterus in normal pregnancy and labor, but in preventing the pathologic conditions of pregnancy (abortion, premature labor, toxemia of pregnancy, abruptio placentae, prolonged labor and postmaturity).
