Ten Cases of the Gravid Uterine Rupture

Rupture of the gravid uterus is one of the most serious and emergent problems in obstetric field. Ten cases of the gravid uterine rupture observed during a period from January 1963 to December 1967 are hereby presented, analyzed, and the literature was briefly reviewed. The result of the analysis was summarized as the follows; 1. The incidence was two in 2189 deliveries. 2. The age was distributed from 24 to 36 year of age and 6 of these 10 cases were at least 30 year old. 3. According to the parity, 6 of these 10 cases were less than 4. 4. Time of rupture was distributed from 29th week of gestation to 46th week, and the peak incidence was between 38th week and 42nd week. 5. According to the site of rupture, only corpus was involved in 4 cases, corpus and cervix 3 and only cervix 3. 6. According to the etiological factors, cephalopelvic disproportion was 2 cases, placenta percreta 1 forceps delivery 2, podalic version and extraction 1, pitocin augmentation 1, and the previous classical cesarean section was 3. 7. The maternal death was nil and the fetal death was 7 of these 10 cases, Three cases of the live birth were transvaginally delivered. 8. In treatment, total hysterectomy was performed in 6 cases, subtotal hysterectomy 2, and simple suture 2.
