The purpose of this paper is to report our experience with the Vacuum extractor at Seoul National University Hospital. Vacuum extractor was employed to assist the delivery and shorten the second stage of the labor in 50 cases of deliveries (39 cases of primipara and 11 cases of multipara). It was also used to accelerate the deliveries in the cases such as toxemia of pregnancy, mild degree of contracted pelvis, and marginal placenta previa In a few cases it was applied to stimulate or enhance the labor even before the end of the first stage of labor. Preliminary results was encouraging and warrant the continual clinical trial of this instrument. Comparing with forceps delivery it showed less materinal and fetal injuries althouth artificial caput succedaneum, which are subsied after one or two days, was marked. None of the babies showed any evidence of skull and brain damage.
