The position of the umbilicus was studied on 90 cases of normal new born infants who were born in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Seoul National University Hospital. 48 cases of the new born were female and 42 cases, male. The measurement was carried out within 48 hours after delivery and the following results are obtained. 1) The length between the umbilicurs and the tip of the ensiform was generally longer than that of the umbilicus and the upper margin of the symphysis pubis in 96.7%. On the contrary, the latter was longer than the former in 1.1%, only 2 cases(2.2%) of them was idetical. 2) The position of the umbilicus located below the midst between the tip of the ensiform and the opper margin of the symphysis pubis in the majority of the cases. 3) There were no correlations between the height and the length of the tip of the ensiform the upper margin of the symphysis. 4) The average body height was 51.4 cm. 5) The average body weight was 3.27 kg.
