Chromic acid soutions, sodium hydroxide solutions were used to oxidatively etch poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) and ABS polymer. Topographical change of the polymer surface was observed with scanning elctron micrscope for solution treated substrate. The surfae change in atomic constitution and chemical bonding energys were dected by ESCA and IR spectroscopy. The peel strength of substrate increased with treating time. This increase is interpreted in terms of wettability, topogrphy and spectroscopy.
