최근 폐타이어의 폐기 또는 재활용에 대한 일반의 관심이 높아져 가고 있다. 이는 이들의 부피와 양이 막대하고 처리문제가 복잡하기 때문일 것이다. 그러나 환경에 동화시키기 위해서, 또한 이롭게 사용하기 위해서는 폐타이어는 좀더 현실적인, 정교한 제품으로 전환되어야 할 것이다. 본 총설에서는 지금까지의 폐타이어 활용방법들을 알아보고 또한 미래 지향적인 새로운 방안을 제시해 본다.

Waste-tires have received a great deal of attention for disposal or utilization because of the large volume and difficulty of disposal. There are lots of ways for waste-tires to be useful. However, to harmonize with our environment the waste-tires should be re-used or converted to a sophisticated form for better utilization. In this paper those current methods to re-materialize waste-tires are discussed and an alternative for the future is proposed.
