In this thesis, I investigate the ways of making the reality in Won-saeng-mong-yu-rok. To achieve my goal, I concentrate on how the reality is produced through the process of reading. Though a reader who is reading a narrative fiction feels real, the fiction itself is neither real nor existent. It is also same that the narrative fiction including the historical facts and persons like Won-saeng-mong-yu-rok is not real and existent, because the historical elements are fictionalized ones. Chapter 2 is composed of two subsections : in the first, what is said in the text, the narrative structure : in the second, on what viewpoint the story is presented, the focalization. In Won-saeng-mong-yu-rok, the series of events are drawn up in line without causality. Because the all characters whom Won-saeng, the protagonist, met in his dream have no name and any information to identify them, the reader can`t understand their indignation and deep grief. At the end of narrative their poems suggest their identification by the intertextual correlation with Yuk-sin-jun written by Nam Hyo-On, it is possible that the reader is to recognize the whole probability : why the characters joined together in the certain place, why they fire up and sorrow, why only the 7th person appears lately. The exchange between the external and the internal focalization in Won-saeng-mong-yu-rok functions as the device of recognition and delay of the crucial informations which are needed to understand the whole story. The appearance of 7th person, therefore, makes it possible to understand the whole narrative from the beginning to the end retrospectively. In Won-saeng-mong-yu-rok, the historical facts and characters and the fictional propositions are consolidated each other correlatively. This means that the fictional propositions are based on the historical context, and that Won-saeng-mong-yu-rok works into the narrative fiction under the condition of interweaving the historical context and the fictional propositions.
