한국산 메기 (Silurus asotus) 의 말초혈액중의 백혈구를 May-Gru¨nwald Gimesa 염색에 의한 형태학적 특성과 Peroxidase, Alkaline phosphatase, Acid phosphatase, PAS 반응에 의한 세포 화학적 성상 및 Escherichia coli 포르말린 사균에 대한 식작용의 유무에 따라 분류하여 각 혈구의 조성을 산출하였다. 말초혈액중의 백혈구는 호중구, 단구, 림프구 및 전구의 4 종으로 구분 되어졌다. 호중구는 직경 12∼15 ㎛ 의 원형의 세포로, 핵은 대부분이 원형, 난형 또는 2-3 개의 분엽핵상으로 호중성의 세포질내에 편재되어 있었고, Peroxidase 와 PAS 반응에는 양성, Alkaline phosphatase 와 Acid phosphatase 반응은 음성이었으며 식작용을 표시하였다. 단구는 직경 12∼15 ㎛ 의 원형 또는 불규칙한 모양의 세포로 핵은 완두콩 또는 불규칙한 모양으로 모든 세포화학 반응에 음성이었지만, 식작용을 나타냈다. 림프구는 직경 5.5∼8.0 ㎛ 의 원형으로 핵이 세포의 대부분을 차지하고 있었으며, 모든 세포화학 반응과 식작용은 음성이었다. 전구는 5.8∼7.2×7.2∼14.4 ㎛ 의 난원형 또는 방추형의 세포로 핵은 세포의 형태에 동일하였으며, 모든 세포화학반응과 탐식능이 음성이었다. 말초혈액중의 각 혈구와 조성은 림프구가 제일 많고 다음이 전구, 호중구, 단구의 순으로 많았다.

Classification of peripheral leucocytes in Korean catfish (Silurus asotus) were performed. The leucocytes were classified on the basis of their morphological, cytochemieal and phagocytic characteristics. Four types of leucocytes were observed in the peripheral blood. Neutrophils were round and 12 - 15 ㎛ in diameter with round, oval or 2 - 3 segmented neuclei. Their cytoplam was stained whitish or grey. Lymphocytes were round and 5. 5 - 8 ㎛ in diameter with large round neuclei which occupied most of the cells. Monocytes were round or irregular cells and 12 - 15 ㎛ in diameter with bean - shaped or irreular neuclei. Thrombocytes were oval or spindle - shaped cells with oval or spindle - neucle. The cells with greyish cytoplasm ranged 7.2 to 14.4 ㎛ in length and 5.8 to 7.2 ㎛ in width. Only neutrophils showed positive reaction in peroxidase and PAS. Neutrophils and monocytes showed active phagocytosis. As the results it is concluded that peripheral leucocytes of Koran catfish could be classified as lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes and thrombocytes.
