본 연구는 다양한 동시확장활동이 유아의 어휘력 및 언어 표현력에 미는 효과와 운영기간에 따른 효과를 알아보기 위해 충청북도에 소재 한 M, D 초등학교 병설유치원 만 5세 유아 총48명(실험집단 27명, 통제집단 22명)을 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 실험집단의 유아들에게는 1주 1편의 동시를 2일간의 다양한 확장활동으로 16주 동안 계획, 전개하였고 통제집단 유아들에게는 1주 1편의 동시활동만 실시하고 확장활동은 실시하지 않았다. 연구절차는 사전검사, 8주간의 실험처치, 실험처치 직후의 사후검사 1, 8주간의 실험처치 ll, 실험처치 ll 직후의 사후검사 II 로 진행되었다. 권경안(1981)의 「사용어휘검사」, 「음성표출검사」와 장영애(1981)의 「언어표현력 검사」를 사용하여 사전, 사후I, 사후ll 검사를 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 다양한 동시확장활동은 유아의 어휘력과 언어표현력 향상에 영향을 주었으며 운영기간에 따른 차이도 보여주었다. 즉 차이는 학기초에 급격하며 차이의 정도는 다소 둔화되지만 그 차이는 학기말까지 계속 유지되었다. 그러나 다양한 동시확장활동은 유아의 음성표출능력에는 영향을 미치지 못하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of various extensions of poetry activities on the development of children`s vocabulary and language expression. Subjects were forty eight children who attended D and M public kindergartens located in K-eup, Chungbuk, Korea. The children were randomly placed in two groups, an experimental group and a control group. The instruments used were Vocabulary Test for 3 to 6 Years Old(Kweon, 1981) and Language Ability Test for Young Children (Chung, 1981). The procedure of the study proceeded the pre-test, treatment I for 8-weeks, post-test I, treatments II for 8-weeks and post-test II. Following the poetry activities, the children in the experimental group engaged in various follow-up poetry activities such as rewriting, dramatics and composition experiences while the children in the control group engaged in no follow-up activity after poetry activities. The collected data was analyzed by ANOVA-repeated measure using a split plot design. The results indicate that: (a) there was a significant difference in vocabulary in use scores between the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group children showed more gains in vocabulary improvement as compared to the children in the control group and the gains were the most after the first 8-weeks treatments. (b) there was no significant difference in phonetic expression scores between two groups. (c) there was a significant difference in language expression ability scores between two groups. The experimental group children showed more gains that the control group and those gains increased to a greater degree than did those of the control group. Moreover, the experimental group`s gains were still in evidence at the end of the semester.
