Air and sea transportation have its own characteristics. Air transportation can accommodate time-sensitive and high value goods such as semi-conductors, computer parts and optical parts etc. Water transportation, on the other hand, carries low value/volume goods like kitchenwares, bicycles and so on. It can carry heavy and big goods like machinery that can not be carried by airplane. It can be summarised that air cargo has high `value intensiveness` than surface cargo. In using maritime transportation `speed` has been identified as a principal need of maritime logistics customers. There exists a gap between air and sea transportation. That kind of gaps in terms of cost and time may be overcome by high speed ships. The high speed service will promote the flow of international movements of goods, especially cargoes with medium value and/or perishable, which otherwise might not be triggered to be transported. According to the characteristics of inventories named as `A`, `B` and `C`, different strategy for international transportation is adopted, and a `gap` was identified. This high speed ship will not only carry cargoes from spares and machinery with medium weight and electronics to flowers and so on, but also cargoes that exceeds aircraft weight and size limitations depending on the desired delivery date and provide substantially faster delivery than conventional ships with a lower rate than air freight. High speed ships will enable ship operators to significantly improve reliability let alone delivery speed, thus bringing more logistics power to shipping industry.
