The last decades or so have been growing of the importance of the distribution function in international trade business. In line with this, containerisation, as a revolution concept, has penetrated into all trade routes as a dominant distribution system with a less unit cost and fast transit time to distribute from door to door. However, it is argued that the current PDM system of Korea in both network and facilities to adopt sound conceptual framework for material and information flow is more appropriate to rational distribution of the container cargo. This factor led this study to investigate the bottleneck for the reliable PDM in Korea and to suggest the improvement strategies for the system. Meantime a brief review of similar PDM studies was conducted to contribute on the literature of the PDM research. The mojor contents of this paper can be inentified into introduction of this paper ; the velationship of the international PDM and shipping ; discussion of the existing literature ; investigating the problems in Korea to cope with smooth PDM ; and finally determining the comparison indicators to suggest the way of improvement strategies of the PDM system in Korea. This paper was trying to contribute on the sound planning and policy parameters to he taken into account for when formulating plan for the future system for reliable implication of containerisation in Korea with balance of international logistic system.
