Bidirectional Selection for Choice of Oviposition Site in Drosophila ananassae
Tulika Srivastava, B . N . Singh
UCI I410-ECN-0102-2009-470-007126061

Selection for choice of oviposition site either on the surface of medium or on the surface of paper positioned vertically on the medium in D. ananassae was carried out for ten generations. Two paper lines (P1, P2), two medium lines (M1, M2) and one control line were made. Response to selection resulted in rapid divergence in paper and medium lines. Regression coefficients for both lines show significant deviation from control. Thus bidirectional selection for oviposition site preference was effective which indicates that oviposition site preference in D. ananassae is under polygenic control with a substantial amount of additive genetic variation.
