A study of genetic polymorphism and allele frequencies of phosphoglycerate kinase *1 (PGK*1) was performed on hemoglobin of red blood cells using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis and specific biochemical stain for PGK. The blood specimens were collected from 924(750 men and 174 women) unrelated healthy Korean. All of the subjects screened for PGK*1 alleles were fixed at PGK*1 except for one heterozygote PGK 2-1 found in only a female among 174 females. Therefore, the frequency of PGK*2 was calculated as 0.0011 having very low range. All of the PGK activity in subjects with fixed at PGK 1-1 fell within the same range.
