( A . K . Sundaran , J . P . Gupta )
UCI I410-ECN-0102-2009-470-007055054

Drosophila siamana is the second species representing the hypocausta subgroup of the immigrans species group from India. a photomap of its polytene chromosomes, showing standard gene sequence, has been constructed for the first time. Our present analysis of the laboratory cultures of this species has revealed the occurrence of four inversions. The distribution pattern of inversions has been discussed in the light of mechanical and co-adaptation hypotheses.
