Investigation of Elementary Education Major Students' Understanding of Concepts in Electricity and Magnetism Related to the Simple Circuits taught in Elementary School

The curriculum for the concepts in electricity and magnetism related to the simple circuits taught in elementary school was reviewed and few suggestions were made. Understanding of these concepts among elementary education majors was also investigated. If is found that students involved in this study showed many misconceptions including the ones already known in previous research. They also showed difficulties in their reasoning, such as tendency to memorize without understanding, difficulty with multi-step reasoning with several variables, and lack of consistency.
