Giemsa C-banded karyotypes and the amount of C-band made it possible to construct the phylogenic relationship among the eight diploid Allium taxa. On the basis of C-banding pattern, A. thunbergii, A. deltoide-fistulosum, A. cyaneum var. deltoides and A. anisopodium appeared more closely related with one another than with the other four species. The relationship between total and length and total chromosome length was generally positive, though regative relationship in A. deltoide-fistulosum and A. anisopodium was observed. The number of C-bands in the metaphase chromosomes was significantly correlated with that of chromocentres in the Giemsa C-stained interphase nuclei. considering A. cyaneum as a primitive species, the direction of speciation was diversely progressed by the increase or decrease of the amount of both heterochromatin and euchromatin according to the species.
