일반적으로 관재 및 봉재의 압출재로서는 열간가공(단조 혹은 압연)을 받은 비레트가 사용되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 주조된 강재 비레트를 사용하여 열간압출로 무계목강관을 제조하여 보았다. 주조된 비레트를 사용함으로서 열간압출 가공전에 해야되는 예비 열간가공을 삭제할 수 있었고, 더욱이 미세한 결정조직과 일차가공된 비레트로 압출된 제품에 필적하는 기계적 성질을 얻었다. 비레트 준비 및 윤활처리 공정을 상세히 기술하였으며, 가공 전후의 금속조직 및 기계적 성질의 변화를 검토하였다.

Usually forged steel billets are used to extrude tubes or rods. In this investigation, cast steel billets were hot-extruded to seamless pipes. By using cast billets, it is possible to elminate hot working operations of the material prior to extrusion. Fine fiber structures and mechanical properties equivalent to extruded products from for ged billets were obtained from the cast billet extrusion. Billet preparation and lubricating processes are described in details. The change of micro-structures and mechanical properties by hot-extrusion of cast steel billets are discussed.
