The physiological function of some guanine analogs separated in the reaction of guanine related compounds with 2,3-dihydroxy-2-propenal on double strand DNA was investigated. The reaction of the analogs with calf thymus DNA was carried out in various ranges of pH and in each buffer solution with different ionic strengths. The DNA-breaking action of the compounds was affected by pH, ionic strengths and species of ions.
